For my final major project, I created Blome Cosmetics, believed to be the first fully sustainable, plantable beauty brand.

The Idea of creating Blome Cosmetics for my final project is to reduce packaging waste and encourage consumers to actively promote sustainability awareness through planting seeded paper. By creating Blome I wanted to create awareness of sustainable products and help introduce colourful sustainability into everyday life.
Blome Cosmetics uses seeded paper, vegetable inks and sustainable adhesives for wrap around labels that are plantable and grow into flowers. The gold tins are reusable and can be refilled with Blome products.

Blome originated from wanting to reduce packaging waste yearly in a fun and creative way, in 2018 120 billion units of plastic waste was produced by the cosmetic industry. Blome hopes to achieve a positive change in costumers recycling behaviour and ways they can give back to the environment with a busy lifestyle.
When researching into how often consumers recycle finished products a survey was conducted using 100 participants to get a wide range of responses. The survey response showed that 67% said they recycle at home and out the house; 23% just at home; 5% when out the house and only 5% that do not recycle at all. (Tolman, 2019) This survey response shows that majority of consumers are changing their lifestyle to becoming more sustainable however still require convenience when recycling.
Even with the large number of consumers recycling we still produced a large amount of waste yearly within the beauty industry. With the research conducted this showed there was a gap in market for a cosmetic brand that engaged consumers in recycling in a non
boring, preachy and self-consciously way. That has been shown in consumer research shows this can be off-putting.
Blome Cosmetics is creating a solution to packaging waste in the beauty industry. Blome encourages the consumer to give back to the environment. By creating a positive and fun way to recycling. This will encourage more consumers in recycling for the future.
