Spring Placement at Lipcote & Co

Updated: May 19, 2020

Amazing opportunity to complete a researching project with LC&CO in April to May 2019

LC&CO is a beauty company based in London; LC&CO have been selling their products for over 70 years. As LC&Co has been around for years the brand consumers have changed and developed since the start. As a part of my placement I needed to understand LC&CO’s demographic as I was required to do research for the brand. The LC&CO’s consumer spans from beauty junkies, to the girl next door, it is just perfect for all make-up Lovers.

LC&CO sell two cosmetic products, the first one is their famous lipstick sealer Lipcote. Perfect for making your lipstick last all day and night! This sealer is long lasting and water resistant. All you need to do is apply lipstick and put on Lipcote’s transparent sealer on top.

The second product is their brand new one called Browcote. This is a waterproof brow gel perfect for taming and setting your brow into place no matter what, brush through Browcote to set your brow style for hours. These products are the only essentials you need to finish your lipstick and brow looks, that has long lasting results.

Lipcote & Co is Against animal testing and has all-natural ingredients in their products. The products are also produced within the UK

Just to prove how good their products are they have achieved recognition for being an Award-Winning topcoat.

My role within LC&CO was a junior researcher. For my role I had to complete two different jobs. My primary task was to create a product database for eyebrow products that was well researched and informative database that included categories and criteria of each individual eyebrow product. From my eyebrow database LC&CO could use this information for different eyebrow products they can promote alongside Browcote.

My secondary task was to create a beauty news database. Where to find recent exciting updates about the beauty industry. With this database LC&CO will use it to be shared with their followers via Instagram stories. The articles would include information about lipsticks, upcoming brands and relatable information from the LC&CO Instagram and consumers. To find a wide range of exciting news updates I would check beauty news websites daily and used a wide range of resources such as Get The Gloss, Glamour Magazine and WGSN and more. After I found a selection of articles, I would add them to my beauty news database.

As my placement was on a work from home basis, we would do weekly meetings with the Junior Brand Manager, where we would show our work from the past week to discuss and get notes for improvements. During those meetings we also discussed information about the brand and how we can develop our own work further within future studies. Additional to our weekly meetings, Every other week we would meet up with Brand manager and Junior brand manager to do mentoring sessions. During the sessions we worked on developing my CV and discussed different ways of networking in the beauty industry.

My overall experience from my placement was enjoyable and I attained a lot of knowledge about the brand and industry expectations. The researcher role for beauty products / beauty news was something that I have never done before. However, I really enjoyed it and learnt different skills. I also have a wider knowledge into aspects of beauty and valued the overall experience.
